Rear fenders and engine lid donīt line up - suggestions

So, Iīm looking to get my first P.

Iīm thinking of this one, a 1970 E, imported from the USA, havenīt seen the car yet in real life, but it looks as something really bad has occurred, could the lid have been replaced as caused the bad alignment ? The car have been repainted fours years ago.
    Suggestions and opinions welcome, thanks.

Probably replaced since the grille looks like its from a '69. How is the gap at the top of the lid?

I would definitely ask if the car has been in an accident. If not it may be as simple as the rear quarters were not put back on the car correctly after the repaint four years ago. If you are not in love with this car you may consider looking for another. If you are in love and want to move forward then have a PPI performed so you have a good shot of understanding what you are up against.

    Good Luck.

Highly doubtful it's a quarter panel problem as something that major would manifest itself in many ways other than simple engine lid alignment...someone knowledgeable needs to readjust lid @ hinges and bumper stops at lower lip...could be something as simple as that. Beyond that, have car inspected by a qualified collision repair specialist.............................

Thank you all for taking time to answer this.

I havenīt seen the car yet, itīs 4 hour drive, but from the pictures it seems that the gab in top are correct, and a adjustment will be difficult, and there seems to be a bend in the rain rail above the LH door to - And as the rust behind the headlight were not fixed before the paint job, I recon itīs a bad car, or at least not so fine, but a plus - itīs an E and silver...

Something funny going on there, the left hand side doesn't look that bad, having said that the right hand side is not right, great advice above, PPI or walk away.

A 69 boot lid should fit a 70, but these are hand built cars there is a lot of adjustment in the boot but not for what you show in your pictures.

The passengers side at the top looks to be sitting low but it also appears to me the contour of the deck lid itself isnt right so maybe it has been hit and not repaired correctly...either way the car looks pretty decent and if you dont buy it let me know!!

Contouring a panel to match adjacent panels is a routine procedure that has to be carried out almost every time a panel is replaced. I think the the idea that this engine lid is a replacement is correct. I can guarantee the rear cowl to engine lid gap is too large. Any good body tech can fit this properly. That said, the car may have other hidden issues. I would not reject the car solely on what I observe in the photos though.
