    Gears 3,4,5 in a 901 box

I'm after getting a 'Q' 4th gear for my project.
I have an option on one with this background...

    >> The Q gears came out of a 4 speed set that had an A shaft, H, Q, X <<
    >>In a 5 speed it would be located in the 4th position <<

    I have a feeling I don't think it'll work ?

    I know in a 5spd 5th can be 3rd and 4th is interchangeable with 5th.
I am not familiar with origin 4 speed gears.

Looking for any help , and possibly a Q 4th gear I can use, if my suspicions are correct..

The Q from the 4spd as 3rd gear can be used as a 4th gear in a 5 spd. They are on the same position on the shaft.

    Richard,
Thanks - you're always there with my questions..
So, you are saying you think it will be OK?, 3rd from a 4 spd will go to 4th in a 5spd?

    Yes.

As a further help, a 4 spd has a normal shift pattern. A 5 spd a dog leg. Position of 3rd in 4 spd box is the same position as 4th in 5spd box.

Grady Clay is better in explaining gearboxes. May be chimes in.
