Help! What color side scripts? Or none at all?

    Hi everyone,

I have spent the last two days scouring Pelican and Early S forums to come to some sort of decision regarding what looks to be an inexpensive mod I can do to the "new to me" '73 RSR recreation:

Specifically, I am thinking of changing the color of the script away from blue, which of course doesn't look bad as the paint job is only 2 years old. But I have to start to personalize the car and I want it to look more bad asz, so this was going to be a first step. I have been immersed in the "hot rod" aesthetic for months now and while I love this car, it is clear from reading that the RSR "look" has passed somewhat in terms of fashion, even though the cars themselves are timeless. I am even toying losing the ducktail and different wheel finishes (RSR anyone?) Basically what I am absolutely going to keep is the white paint, the flares on all corners, the wheels (albeit with a "new" finish) and the interior.

I would love it if you guys could make suggestions on what to do about scripts/no scripts/P O R S C H E side script vs. Carrera/script colors/wheel finishes/decklid vs ducktail

Please give me some "fashion sense" and tell me your opinions!

BTW, I have a whole host of other mods planned for the winter months and I'll be using this amazing forum as a resource for that, too!

A handsome ride Jim... congratulations. The RSR look isn't exactly shrinking violet and it's pretty obvious from it's broad shoulders what kind of car it is. Since you dig the hotrod aesthetic, strip all the decals off and knock the bling on the wheels back a couple of notches first. Then drive it like that for awhile until your creative juices direct the next step.

    Just my 2¢... minus est.

    Thumbs up

I agree with Russ.... If you want more/less do it in steps

After removing decals and a different finish on the wheels, then maybe removing the tail, then maybe picking a period solid contrasting color (colors) and think about painting the bumpers (and or) hood/deck lid....... all easily doable AND reversible....

    Nice car....

    Cheers

It all depends on what you want. I'd keep the RSR look have Harvey redo the wheels in the RSR finish. I've always liked either the red or green script more than the the blue, gold looks great too. Looks really high in the rear.

Thank you so much Russ, Chuck and David -- I appreciate the fast responses. Of course, no decisions yet, although I like the idea of taking off the blue stripes and letting the ideas percolate . . .

The car has been lowered. The photos above were taken by the prior owner (I assume right after the paint job)

I took this one last week:

I remenber seeing that car for sale. I envisioned it lowered (well done), keeping the blue stripes with the Fuchs all black (no polish or chrome).

Nice ride as is though - congrats

Thanks for the comments (and photos, Yale!) -- I like the sporting character of the minilites, but I don't think they come in the right size for this car which is currently running 8 1/2 and 10 on 16 inch wheels. There is a nice replica by VTO out there on 16 inch wheels, but in narrower sizes.

I am leaning towards keeping the paint job and stripes as it is -- the stripes were done perfectly by the way. I spoke to Harvey Weidman this morning about the wheels -- I will probably get the RSR frosted finish done over the winter.
