    Sportomatic Question

    Hello,

I'm a novice with my car. It have noticed I have a 6" square plate welded inside both rear wheel arches
To the tub of the car, they are located just above the rear wheels.

There is evidence near the passenger side plate of a bracket covered in underseal, my car is a RHD car
Converted from sporto to manual 905 gearbox.

Question: do sportos have an oil tank both sides located inside the rear wheel arch above the rear wheels?
If not what else would have gone there?

I have a threaded oil tank in the usual place Drivers side in the corner of the rear wing.

    Thanks for your time.....

Let's see some pictures of the bracing. Your early VIN could be associated with some racing history. Only time and research will tell. Thanks for your share...

Both welded plates are above the kidney bowls and under the rear side windows, also evidence of a bracket covered with underseal.

You don't say what year the car is. However the answer to your tank question is that they have one oil tank, right side of the car. On a 1972 car its behind the door jam, all others its in the engine compartment in the normal location. The Sporto uses the engine oil supply to operate the torque converter. There is a pump driven by the camshaft.

    Sorry Mike,

    It's a 1969 LWB, vin:119100008
So guess it don't explain why I have two welded plates.
Does anybody know what could have been here?

    Cheers Lee

Yes Agree could be Rust plating but please look at the bracket Ive found?
managed to strip the under-seal off and clearly shows a plastic bolt going into a thread?
    would guess 1/2" Diameter.

this bracket is just below the welded plate passenger side (its a RHD Car)
will check the other side to see if it has a similar bracket underneath the under-seal..

    your thoughts...

Could it be for a rear seatbelt bolt?
