Need model year explanation for 911T

never really paid any attention to it until now, after seeing several references to 1968 model year 911T... I have been under the impression that the first model year for the 911T was 1969... I am aware that the actual production / build date for the 911T model was in early calandar year 1968 for the cars to be delivered as 1969 year models later in the same calandar year. Is someone hyping that their car is very early in the production run or was there an actual 68T model year. Then as part of the sales hype, a distinction is made as being rare. Is that more creative add copy or am I missing something ?

used as the base for the T/R as well as rally cars etc

as to "rare" to get this homologation you need 1000 units to be built
In fact there were 928 T coupes made at Porsche and a further 638 T coupes made at Karmann as well as 521 targas.

the "Rare" 68 T's are those with factory installed engines that start with 408xxxx or maybe 418xxxx (sporto) as they are S engines, rather than the T engines that start with 208 or 218, as those cars are most likely to have been built for competition purposes.
