    Aluminium crossmember SWB?

Is the later aluminium front cross member compatible with the 67 and earlier SWB front suspension?

    Hey Jim'

I have a later aluminum cross member bolted right up to my '67S tub. I put it in just to put it on my shop dolly for stripping and paint. It doesn't have the the two struts ( I was going to call you for a pair) but it fit right up.

Obviously, the early A arms won't fit in the aluminum receivers, but if one is going to a later A arm/ball joint/strut setup...doesn't the whole thing just bolt in.

If the stock later aluminum struts don't line up, why wouldn't a little fab work make a fit???

    Hi Mark

Yup, a complete suspension from any later car (1989 or earlier) will bolt right right in a SWB car. You can bolt a SWB control arm to an aluminum crossmember if you have a 1968 (which still uses the early ball joints), but nothing earlier. I don't think any amount of fab work will allow a 67 or earlier control arm to work with an aluminum crossmember. The 68 control arms are "one year only" and can be bought in a junk yard in the SF Bay Area for not a lot of money.
