One year later: Got my car back !

    Quick recap:

I bought that car a few days before my wife gave birth, and immediately dropped it off at the shop… My son turned 1 last week, and I just got the car back today… It's not 100% yet, but it's a milestone of sorts!

This is a 72T that was leaking was sold to me as super original (it was and it wasn't), but was leaking oil from every engine seal, and had small body work dings on practically every panel - not my best buy, but I took a chance…

Took a chance and lost a little, but I'm still ahead of the game due to sheer luck (you'll see why below)… it spent a good 8 months at the shop dealing with a full engine rebuild and tranny reseal, plus catching up with 40y of worn out parts:

Till finally it was ready, with a resealed tranny, the fresh engine and rebuilt fuel pump, new clutch, shocks, and all the maintenance items (plugs, wires, distributor cap, who knows what else….)

It was ready to go home, and got rear ended at a red light during the first test drive

Not career ending, but annoying, time consuming, and bad news for the original paint out back…

    leading to this:

plus a new lid, tail light and some light body work…

Then the painter cunningly pointed out to the adjuster that the odds of matching my 40y old (largely but not completely) original paint were extremely low… A few weeks of back and forth ensued and my insurance agreed to repaint *the whole car*… The good news is that a LOT of body imperfections were cleaned up in the process… So what I lost on the engine, I mostly recouped on a free paint job !!! Thank you Porsche Gods - must put the Ferry badge on the engaine lid now as an offering !

Also, I dipped into my stash of 912 parts and took advantage of the disassembly to have them install new seals on all windows, including door stuff…

    Finally picked her up today:

The sugar scoops are getting removed this afternoon…

And here is my pathetic best effort at a Magnus Walker impersonation:

Ok, it's mostly 912s so nobody is impressed ;-) (ain't got the hair, nor the car collection)

Ugly photo showing the awful high ride height up front - I'm gonna fix that this week…

A few things left to do… clean up the fuchs, retune the fuel pump. The mechanic asked me to drive it around a little to loosen things up a bit, he said those pumps being fuel lubricated can seize up little sitting on a shelf and he did not want to adjust it until it loosened up a little.. sounds familiar or ??? It hesitates a little now but he is planning to retune it later this week when I've had a chance to put a few miles on it.

The clutch pick up point is a little high too… I got a factory big hub wheel from cornpanzer as well, got that double wrapped so I must install it soon.. also need to yank out the A/C vents and installe a proper knee pads, remove the sugar scoops…probably gonna get a Wevo that looks like the stock shifter for it, and drive the hell out of it…

I swear I don't do white on purpose, that's all I can find ;-) Once I recover from this last bill, I will dissasemble the top 912 and get it resprayed slate grey... Too many white cars ;-)

912 are cool, T's are great.
Will take 5 years until it goes from "early adopter" (sic !) trend to mainstream fashion.
