best way to remove paint from fan and housing

I rebuilt my engine a year ago and just had the car painted. The engine looks like cra.....p because I painted the fan silver and the housing black a few years ago and it never really stuck (chipped very quickly). Should have had it all powder coated during the rebuild but did not.

I want to take it back to original and strip the paint off. Is chemical paint striper a bad idea? This would make it a simple, couple hours project as I don't have a media blaster.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I've both stripped with aircraft paint remover and used media blasting. Media blasting by far gives better results and can be done very cheap. I had my last fan and housing blasted by a local hot rod guy who had a smaller media blaster. He did it for 10. The paint stripper and elbow grease were allot more than that.

Paint stripper should be fine. I used it to take off powder coating on a fan.

Glad to know a basic paint stripper and some elbow grease is sufficient. Once it's stripped, just reinstall or should a clear or other protectant be used. I am prob. over thinking a simple project.

    Thanks,

    Chris,

After you get it stripped, use "Gibs Brand" on it. I don't have the link, but it works great!

I also had good luck removing powder coating with media blasting. I followed this up with Gibbs. I wouldn't recommend clear or any other type of coating.
Several Gibbs threads on the board.
