Thread: A rebodied '68 or a later model with new VIN tags?

  1. #1

A rebodied '68 or a later model with new VIN tags?

Could it really be a '68 with lots of new everything or, rather, for another strange reason a SC which had '68 Chassis numbers welded to it? Note the engine, looks like it might be numbers matching !

    Thanks.

That's really strange. This guy is not far from me and lists an assortment of 911's and 912's.....most neededing attention. If I was down there I'd check this out as I cannot beleive that someone went to that much trouble to build an SC! Probably done in the 80's. See if he still has it when I get back down there in August.

Looks like 68 door handles, the targa hoop has the vents shouldn't have on a 68. I guess someone should measure the wheelbase.

Even has the later model oil tank arrangement.
Looks like somebody renumbered an SC back in the day to hide its real identity.

Stolen, salvaged (before title washing became illegal) or just a plain old bastardized mess from the past.

    I wouldn't bid much more than $110.

Prob swapped VIN in Europe to qualify for the EPA exemption on emmissions certification for +25 year old vehicles when it was imported back in the early 2000's (?). This is not a SWB 911, obviously.

Similar story here: appears to be an 80's car with a '69 VIN tag, though the buyer originally thought it was an updated '69 (?): http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/vie...hp?f=2&t=39373
