Thread: LED light bulbs

  1. #11
Odd - I use them in my cars and have never had to change the flashers. Worked great out of the box and bought them at Kragen of all places...they work great as a stopgap fix for dim taillights, as they require less current to go full bright than tungsten filament bulbs. I've never been happier with tail light bulbs than with LEDs.

Ok...I'm convinced. Who is the recommended source for led's to upgrade my 72 911's tail and brake light bulbs...with the plug 'n play version. Also, what led part numbers do I need to do this?
    Cheers!

I purchased the LED bulbs from a seller on eBay. Nobody in particular, just the best price with a good seller rating. In fact the seller was from Hong Kong and there were no issues with receiving the product. The bulbs I used (see the photos further up in this thread) are SMD LED. These have LED panels that are situated so that when then illuminate, they reflect off the inside of your light housings. Buy red LED for the brake light, yellow for the turn signal, etc. The key is the bulb color needs to match the color of the lens it will shine through. Search eBay with terms SMD LED 1157, for example for a 1157 type bulb.

another safety plus to LED is that they come on MUCH sooner than regular bulbs, replace one brake bulb and have someone push the pedal, you'll be amazed.

There's a bewildering array of LEDs available. Can anyone provide specifics? 15d, 12d, etc.

    Thanks,

For an 1157 running/stop light these should work just fine. These sellers likely have the other bulbs you need as well, such as 1156 amber for turn signals & white for backup lights. Search for 1156 LED SMD amber

    Thanks

    Hey All,
I just want to thank the contributors for all the great links!

This is my next project... after the rear window defroster replacement.

Someone over on Pelican had come up with LED replacements for the instrument lights that had the correct load and dimmed properly. Does anybody know of that product or an equivalent one?

    Thanks!

There is a new brand that all the ricers swear by. NOKIA.. it outperforms most of the LED out in the market and are not the taiwan ones. They actually in packaging boxes. I think they are made in KOREA and in Japan.
