Thread: differences in the early sun visors

differences in the early sun visors

I'm sure this has been covered here before but nothing like re-inforcing our knowledge of what is correct.
the Targa sun visors are a little bit longer at the "dogleg"
installing Targa sun visors on a coupe makes the flap run into the mirrors stem.
hopefully I got this right, I have both 67 coupe and Targa and it appears to be the case.
on both cars the visors are black on both sides.
was this just random where some cars got all black and others got white on one side.
I have seen them all white also.

is there a thread with the final word about visors early and later?

I'm no expert Richard... but pretty sure all Targa sunvisors are black, coupes with black headliners got black (?)
and white headliners got two-tone visors.

Also remember from 1968 the sun visor pivots on the outer edge, whilst the targa remains attached at both ends.

1968 went to the one hole bracket on targa I believe. There was a small revision to the 69' targa, still non-pivoting. I suspect if those are all black, they are 68' & 69' targa. The difference in the tabs may be due to the rear view mirror being relocated in 69'. I'm pretty certain the short tab is 68' targa.

I may start an argument but I am not aware of any early 911 series cars with any other color of headliner than off white.

    Jim,

not to be argumentative and certainly not disputing your claim of not being aware of any other color of headliner except the apparently standard off-white, but let me point out that a scan of the specs of all the 911 RSs made, ( as listed in the back of the Konradsheim "bible" ), reveals that 53 of them were shipped with an option referred to as "black roof liner".

The only reason I mention that is that I believe that as long as Porsche had the black vinyl material available for use in the RS series, wouldn't it make sense that they probably would have offered it as an option in the regular production road cars during that time.

    Just thinking out loud..............

We need to continue this arguement in person. Saturday, during the normal monthly get together of the Rgruppe here at my junkyard, we can shout and make threatening jestures at each other to further our points of view.

PS: Your point will be taken much more seriously by me if you come bearing an apple fritter.

Close up of 65/66 visor. It is made from the same material as the ones in 356s from 1958 on.

Jim, if all it takes are apple fritters to get you to post more often on stuff like this, is there a local place that delivers?

Casey, what do you mean by "one hole bracket" on targas?
