Great pics Rick. I have a sick hankering for a pre '70 Square. Stock as possible of course. No Cal Look for me. If you run across one, I am a PM away.

More Type 181s . . .
Resto/respray . . . and it looks kinda dark to me. Then again, I can't remember seeing these Things in anything except beat-up/oxidized/washed once-decade shape, so --- what do I know. Weird stance, and don't know 'bout those mirrors --- kinda shiny --- but typical/usual after-market wheels + muffler, radio aerial. But, except for Cheech & Chong upholstery, interior looks pretty right --- check-out the wind-shield-mounted wiper motor. (Zat unit look familiar?) Odd-balls when they were new --- 40-years ago, now . . . and still a bit of an acquired taste, I suppose, but a LOT easier on the landscape ('Tread Lightly'). . . plus with $4+ for fuel . . .
. . . and --- you can drop the wind-shield!

More Type 181 . . .
Gas heater. '. . . Haven't had the courage to try it, yet . . .'
And a nifty little touch --- snap/clip in door compartment covers. 'There's my hat!'
Red is not-even stock/standard. And an original exhaust would be through-the-bumper
Also, note the purple shirt, hair-style/-line . . . . . . and demographic

'54 VW Type I
Oval window, 25hp. No front turn-signals . . . just semi-phores --- in the B pillar, + rear 'heart' tail-lights.
Rest of the detailing is kind of a pastiche/mish-mash/cluster, including . . .
. . . misc badges of indeterminate source/relevance on front
. . . old-style (pre-'56) CA plate w/correct metal reg tab (impressive), w/old-style frame on the front (not a VW dealer but, still --- hard to come by)
. . . + what looks like vintage Brit (?) plate on the rear (see 'GB' decal in rear window)
. . . add more indeterminate badging on rear
. . . add accessory tail-pipe dress-up
. . . add 'bubblehead' --- '60s?
. . . add rear back-up light, age/source indeterminate --- post-'67?
. . . and rear fog-light, ditto
. . . and don't forget the Inevitable Roof-rack
. . . w/predictable luggage
. . . appropriately/neatly + carefully/suitably (over-) stickered, of course
Guy's ready for a Porsche
His work here --- is done
Pssst . . . VW made real GB-market cars that came w/ wrong-hand drive

Not really up on my Old VWs . . . but this split-window has the really old grooved bumpers, a sun-roof, but still --- lot of shiny trim. '50 or '51, maybe?
Anyway . . . restored beyond belief
'64 VW Type III Sedan, aka Notchback
After the shock of borrowing my Sister's Bug --- and experiencing 30+ MPG economy as a penniless college-grad . . . and after my Love of Air-cooled Devices firmly took hold . . . I bought one of these little jewels, back in the mid '80s --- a 1500S 'roof. Wonderful car. My personal Gentleman's Express. Drove the living daylights out of it, too --- maybe +200k mi-worth. Then sold it --- along w/ my stash of NOS body panels + trim . . . for every dime I had into it
Sure, sure. Not powerful. Not fast. Kinda anonymous/non-descript looking . . . and actually kinda looks like a Volvo. But all the usual VW virtues --- tough, light, easy to take care of . . . just a bit more interesting-looking, roomy. Lotsa glass + visibility
And these really cool side-markers --- and on this one . . . just about everything else
Accessory bumper guards, S-type wrap-around front turn-signals + rear reflectors, door-handle guards, headlight guards (never seen these before), deluxe hubcaps w/beauty rings (only seen these in pictures, before this) . . . even has both original black CA plates! . . .
. . . and --- of course . . . the Inevitable Roof Rack
Ridiculously over-restored/cherished/enjoyed by One Very Luck Owner
(I am SOOOOO jealous)
McDonald's bag in last photo proves the point: the people's car!

Old-a$$ Karmann Ghia . . . looks restored
Check-out the shut-lines, trim-fit, and vintage glove-box detritus, interesting license frame
Clean-enough-looking Little Stinker, but those wide-whites are really remarkably hideous, IMO, but --- vintage? . . . at least, going by the ink-stamp on the spare
Inevitable Luggage Rack, but at least, no Inevitable Roof Rack . . . . . . . . . . prolly on order, though
While we're waiting . . . may I suggest using the back-seat? Or the trunk, perhaps? FedEx?
