No museum piece, this . . . looks to be a '65 or 6 --- prolly w/ its original CA black plate . . . paint slow-baked to semi-gloss perfection, I'm guessing re-pro side trim, rust just starting to come through the outer door skins, goofy door-glass surround --- attempted key-less entry? . . .

I bought my first car, 1972 VW from that dealership after it was call Garden West VW.

Owner most likely has a stack of "I would like to buy " cards. Nice original car.

'Cal' Looks . . . or what they call it it when you slam a VW, festoon it w/ lights/badges/roof-racks/furniture/etc, then take it out and show-off

I absolutely must defend Cal-Look. This is NOT Cal-Look.
Cal-Look was a trend which started in the early 70's where they took a Beetle sedan and emulated the drag race scene of the day. Nose down, magnesium or aluminum wheels, basically stock body with the trim removed and bumpers replaced with T-bars and a big Weber IDA motor in the rear. Colors were single-color...whites, blacks, yellows. By the mid '80's the Porsche influence had started to creep in and you began to see Fuchs, and Baby Turbo style mirrors.

Ratty VW's with roof racks, accessories bolted all over and radically lowered rear suspensions are not Cal-Look.
