    Importance of SWB bumper weights

    Hi All,

I was talking to a few SWB friends who have assured me that the handing/driving benefits associated with adding bumper weights in a SWB 911 far out way the nominal 22 kg of extra mass. What is the prevailing wisdom?

    Dan

ps. if anyone has an extra set I'm looking...

I think they were designed to kill you when you take the bumper off.

You need a set? I suggest you find them locally ... shipping will cost you the value of your car ... pig iron is heavy.

Your car will drive strangely if they aren't there. Years ago I was fortunate to have dinner with Helmuth Bott. In the course of conversation we talked about my 65 911. His first comment was whether I had kept the weights in the front bumper or not. He insisted they must be there.

Given the quality of the repro replacement parts suppliers we have, it doesn't sound like a tough part to re-make. I wonder how big the demand would be?

There was a lively thread about this a while back.

If you are using 4 1/2-5 5 1/2 wheels with skinny tires then yes
You should keep the bumper weights. If you are using 6 and
7R wheels with a performance tires the you don't need them.

    Rob,

I'm on the skinnys (4.5's with Vredestein Sprint Classics), so I am definitely thinking that I should find myself a set. Do you have any extras?

I don't, Check with Karossere they may have a pair. Post a WTB here or on the bird, for a pick up at Ski round top if you are going. If not, could pick them up for you.

Good suggestion (done). I will probably go, but I may take you up on the offer if anyone bites; thanks!
