Seen this mentioned in several ads for cars --- and I'm curious

I'm familiar w/some of the asking prices for MFI bits ---pumps (in various states), injectors, lines, etc

    But does anybody have any recent + relevant experience in finding/restoring + re-installing/tuning a once-missing MFI set-up?

What kind of time/money would this sort of project involve?

    Roughly?

Far from an expert, but been there, done that. Parts are available. The biggie will be the pump. Several reputable sources for rebuilding, but can't go wrong with Gus @ Pacific Fuel Injection. I think you can budget $3500-4K for that item, unless you want some particularly exotic setup. I'd budget an additional $2k - $2500 for the rest of the MFI-specific bits, depending on how patient you are and the reconditioning work required to bring back to within spec, if necessary. If you are lucky, the drive pulley will still be attached to the left camshaft and the seal won't be leaking. Stock air cleaned recommened and I'd also go for the metal air horns inside the air cleaner, even if the nylon ones are more correct. Metal ones are less prone to melting/burning.

That was my experience. Your mileage may vary.

I just went through this and the parts are available. I suggest anyone that has had MFI removed located and secure these parts now because they will only get harder to find. The key is have a good calibrated pump and throttle bodies with tight shafts you want as little play as possible. I suggest anyone buying a pump to send it to Robert Cunningham at Fairchild Industries in Redding CA. If the bearings and space cam have no wear it will just need an internal cleaning and calibration on the flow bench. This was the case with my pump with a very minimal charge. I purchased a complete MFI setup for my E two years ago and just had it installed about 4 months ago. Depending on who you use allow around 8 hours labor for install.

The 70 S Targa is heading to the "Fatherland" after the particulars are worked out. 9110310125 was posted on Samba, Excellence classified and eBay. Great exposure and activity generated by all the sites.
