    2012 Thread on Battery Solutions

After unsuccessfully searching the forum for good, current ideas for the best battery solutions, I decided to start a new thread as things do change over time. In my '73S I currently have twin Interstate U911-50 batteries, installed in July 2005. Although they still start the car fine, I've probably stretched the life out of these 65 month batteries as they are now 85 months old.

Interstate's website says these have been discontinued and can no longer be ordered http://www.interstatebatteries.com/c...ement++battery so I'm looking for the best solution, and i am not particularly keen on the Optima products. My preference is to keep two batteries that fit as if stock.

What do you think is the preferred solution in today's market?

If you want to change nothing the sonnenshchein (wrong spelling for sure) like ed mayo uses are the best. expensive though.

I bought two U911's from Marco TLG a few months ago. They are solid black in color. I'm sure there's still enough of them around that you could find some locally. You could order them from Porsche and get the Porsche name on them. They will cost more of course.

I think you can also get twin replacements fron Por$che. The pn is 999 611 014 91. According to the Bird they are $192.75 ea (http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...iption=BATTERY)

or you can try Sonnenschein (http://www.sonnenschein.org/) A512/40 units.

I've had both Porsche and Interstate. No real difference. My Interstate dealer couldn't find that 911 battery last month so I went with Porsche.

btw - I've had good luck replacing one battery at a time. When everything goes dead I just replace the weakest battery. I'm good for a couple more years.

I had bad luck with the Sonnenscheins. They just didn't last. Right now I'm running gel type batteries that are made and sized for a Miata. They are smaller so I have to put a block behind them to allow the straps to tighten properly. They were about $100 each so even if they don't last long I won't feel to bad.
