    Fuel Pump troubleshooting

1972 911-S.... I stopped driving the car 18 months because of all the minor oil leaks. My intention was to drop the engine and have it back on the road asap. I was able to start and move the car around the shop and drive it back and forth on a private drive earlier this year.
Now it wont start, engine turns over (good battery). I noticed there was no gas smell from volicity stacks and no sound from fuel pump. I can shoot starter fluid into stacks and it fires.
I removed the fuel pump from mounting bracket, removed hoses, I have 12v to pump, took assembly to work bench, carefully pulled the metal cap (4 screws) off from body (yes i saw the little pins) reconnected pump to power and it turns freely and quietly.
I blew compressed air into fuel line to tank and the fuel poured out of supply line to pump so I know I have fuel to pump. Reconnected all and tried starting the engine but I don't think I'm getting fuel to engine.
    My questions are,
    1. should I hear the pump working when key is turned

    2. where should i pull fuel line downstream from pump

You should hear the fuel pump running whenever the ignition is on. Sometimes they get stuck when they sit and a little tap with a screwdriver gets them going. Or maybe the fuse is bad or corroded and there is no juice to the pump. I would pull the fuel line loose at the filter to check for flow.

Not sure what happened but I pulled the fuel pump again to double check everything, reconnected power and now pump is operating correctly. I removed fuel filter can, blew air through hose to pump and then turned ignition on and fuel is now getting to filter. Decided it would be best to drain gas tank and start with fresh gas, will see how it goes.
    Thanks for the info.
