    Stranded in Telluride

    Guys

I'm on a cross country trip in my 73 and my clutch cable broke this AM, a block from the house. Does anybody know who might be able to help with parts and the ability to replace the clutch cable? At least Telluride is a great place to be stuck! Thanks. My cell is 619-985-6162. Nick

Sorry to hear that Nick. I'm no help, but try posting on Pelican, larger population there and more chance someone who's in the area.

    Hope it gets solved quickly.

Depending on where it broke, Home Depot sells cinch kits for the different types of stranded aircraft cables. You might be able to MacGyver it if the wire is clear of any obstructions.

Bummer Nick! Grady Clay is in CO. Drop him a line via PP. He will surely have a hookup for you.

Depending on how crafty you are about doing the install yourself, I could try to overnight my extra cable to you. Or you could see about getting one ON from Pelican. Not sure if Sunday delivery is possible. You're probably looking @ Monday for shipping a new one.

I was able to limp a 356 home from Monterey to LA many years ago with a broken cable. Just start it in first gear on the starter and then just match the revs from there on. There's a lot of guys in Denver if you can get there, I've pm'd someone there for you, and will advise.

Nick, best of luck, not the greatest place to be stranded. I thought that Frank Gorman lives there, or lived there? Not sure. He posts under various handles here, the most recent being 2008porsche. GOOD LUCK! By the way, totally off topic, but I never 'got' Telluride....Aspen or Sun Valley any day....

Kent- pelican is closed on Saturday so the earliest to get a cable to me would be Tuesday. Can you give me a call, your spare might be the quickest solution. I can't wait here too long!

Eric- I asked my mechanic Wayne Baker about rev matching and he said I'd damage syncrhos by doing so. He said I could drive in second gear.

Scott Hansen is also making calls for me; his family owns a home here and may also have a spare cable.

Thanks guys, I'm fortunate to be part of a great community of guys willing to help.

I checked the 356 Travel Assistance Network also - nobody in Telluride. What semi-bigger city/area is closest? There are a lot of guys on the network that would always (well, most always) be willing to help a 911 in trouble....

Nick: Let me know if you want me to contact for you the nearest dealer to Telluride - Porsche of Colorado Springs! They are good guys and someone there has to know how to work on these older models. I am currently in Carmel and not at my Vail Valley second home. Hope at least you are enjoying the last 30 days of 'summer' in the Rocky Mountains! I will return to Colorado in Mid-September to get to see the full color change of the Aspens! I am sure you are already seeing some slight color in the Aspen forests!
