San Diego: how to measure noise level?

I autox with the PCA-OCR guys every month at El Toro...and even instruct.... I want to get more seat time, so I signed up for the San Diego autox at Qualcomm on Sept 1.
I know there is a noise restriction....and while my car has a muffler, it can be loud. I bought a decibel meter, but I don't know how to do the test..... ie, where do you hold the meter? (how from the car, etc..).... and I don't know what rpm the car needs to be at for the test.

It's about a 2-hour drive down to San Diego for me...and I don't want to pack up my wheels, food, etc,...hook up the car, and then drive down there at 4am to find out I can't run.

Can someone help me with the test process? If you run in San Diego...all the better...

    thanks
    Dave

Yeah, you wouldn't want to drown out the fighter jets flying into Miramar or the commercial jets landing at San Diego Airport.

I get your point... but at the moment, it's the rule.

You need to find out how PCA is measuring the DB level and then duplicate it.
