    Windscreen Wiper Boo boo...

I've gone to refit my windscreen wiper mechanism and realised that with the dash fitted, I can't fit the canvas strap that holds the back of the mechanism to the underside of the dash... Am I making sense? This support strap undoes from above, but you can't get to the area with the dash pad in place.

So I now have to work out how I can fit the motor/meck back in without having to pull the windscreen and dash... Anyone got a work around for this?

    Hi John,

You really need the dash top out to do that job properly. Is it problem just to take it out again?

I recall removing the speaker too, to replace the wiper assembly.

For reference it is possible to leave the dash, screen etc in and remove the wiper motor. Leave the canvas strap attached (which has 2 x 6mm screws under the dash) and disconnect the canvas from the actual wiper motor. We tend to generally remove everything as the cars are being restored.
    Thanks

    Success!

A combination of Mike and Alan's advice... I took the canvas strap off the mechanism and attached it from the underside using short fat rivits. I then very tediously fitted up the mechanism and worked the 8mm bolts back through the canvas strap - there is very little room and you're in pain by the time you get it done, but it's done!

    Thanks all
