    5 bolt fuchs for 59 356 fitment

I am considering the swap on my convertible D to 5 bolt hubs so it can wear fuchs. I currently have both 5.5x14 and 6x15 fuchs. What is the typical (if there is such a thing) fuch to fit for the conversion? My car is stock. I was considering selling the 5.5x14s as they came off a 914-6 I am restoring and replacing with either 15x6s or 15x7s. But if I should keep them for the 356 I will. I like to make only original mistakes...thus my question here. TIA

Talk to the guys over on the 356 Registry it seems to me the perfect set up is the 5.5x14. At least for the front, because of rubbing/limited steering movement.
Depending on how you switch to the disk brakes also has impact on fitment.

I have 5.5x14 on my '65 SC, I know of some that use 6x15 so both can be used. Tire selection can effect fitment and clearance.

We have put 6s on the SCs done as 67S. The "A"s sometimes pose a different fittment problem. The best IMHO is 5.5X15 with 185/65 tires.
The 14s will also work, but not as proportionate.

When running 5.5 or 6" Fuchs on a 356 it's better to run a 1/4" spacer and longer studs as those wheels have more
offset to the inside and you will likely have tire rub on the inside especially in the front on full lock. Also if converting
to discs on your D, you will probably have to clearance the rear bump stops on the body as your tires may contact them
especially if you don't run the spacers. Plus the C rubber buffers do not line up with the upper rear mounts on the A body.

    Keep driving 'em!

I've got 5.5 steelies on my speedster....195/65 15 currently (pictured might be 195/60's... can't recall, old pics...). I always kinda thought that fuchs on a speedster or speedster"D" looked a little too new with fuchs on it, but I think it kinda depends on what you do with the rest of the car. I've got a set of magnesium Torque thrust D's that are going on the car next. e

I'm running 5.5 Fuchs on my Speeder and personally like the look better than the steelies as they look too flat.
Plus they're less unsprung weight! Having said that, back in another lifetime and with usual low budget, I ran 7"
steel wheels with slicks when time trialing it at Sears Point. This was before cantilevered side wall tires and rear
tire would barely kiss the LR outer fender. Burn mark is still there to this day! :-)

My buddy runs 6 X 16 Fuchs on his A coupe. Really great look as the wheel is hidden even more by the rear fender. No issues with rubbing with adapters from wide 5 to small 5 pattern.

I installed deep 6's on my 57 coupe. I used the later (wider) front hubs off a 911 to help with the front offset. 57Coupe.jpg
