A pillar VIN question

did Porsche have an exact position for the A pillar VIN plate? I looked at a 70 T today and the A pillar plate was about an inch away up from the top of the dash and on my 73 it is placed about half way up the pillar.
was this a kind of "random position installation" thing where it was placed anywhere as long as it was on the A pillar?

where are yours located?

Here's another place where I suspect the Karmann and factory cars might differ.

My 71T Karmann has it about 1" above the dash pad.

On my 72's it's 4 inches from the dash to the bottom rivet.

my A pillar VIN plate is missing. Does anyone know where I can get a blank one or have one made? It's a US spec car (I understand Euro cars didn't have this plate?) Anyway, I can prove ownership of the car and all the other VIN's on the car match. I think someone simply lost it when the headliner was replaced by a PO.
