FS: Original Orange Bar Hood Badge

Very nice, small sliver missing in one of the orange bars which you see in the extreme close up. Pins appear to be original ones soldered into place.

I'm selling this for a friend. If no one buys this by Monday I'm going to buy it from him and see if I can find a jeweler to redo just the one orange bar. I know there's the one person doing badge restorations in Australia. And a quick search has yielded have several places on the Internet that do cloisonne repair. I might be looking for cores!

Unfortunately, Allan Heywood (Australia) passed away in 2010. Great loss as he was a real craftsman.
Let us know if you find another source for quality restoration on the order of Allan's work.

So sorry to hear that. A lot of craftsmanship is going away as we lose the older generation.

BTW, I have a number of inquiries out to cloissone repair shops. But at least one believes that Porsche used enamel and not cloissone.

John, already went that route with the jeweler can not be done, they can't match the color. If you try to repair the red enamel the high heat needed will destroy the rest of the enamel on the badge, need to completely strip the badge and redo all the enamel then have a jeweler replate it. Here is the best source for that now, I was quoted $250 for complete repair:

Porsche Classic now do the whole series of badges in the correct colours.

Unless an old badge was perfect I'm not sure why would you consider buying and spending large amounts to fix when you can
now buy again from Porsche for less than the repair costs (I haven't seen one yet though just pics from Porsche Classic)

Yeah, it's kind of like like the inheirited George Washington hachet that has been handed down for generations that we talk about here. The head has been replaced four times and the handle has been replaced five times.

Maybe it's not only original once!

There are many high value Ferraris out there where about the only thing that is original is the VIN. But if you're stickler for originality - and I have a client who is for whom I'm looking for an original '65 or '66 - the definition of original is, other than consumable items, as the car left the factory. Needless to say those cars are hard to find.

I'm with you John, if it didn't need repair I would have shut my trap as I too would always prefer a perfect original
to a 4 decades later perfect original.
