    235/50/15 on a 9 inch rim??

    Guys,

Couple of tire & rim questions.

71 Hotrod with RS flares/rolled, running 235/50/15s Toyo R888s on 15x8s in rear, car is low, no rubbing issues at all.

I just picked up some custom made offset 15x9 Fuchs which are letting me get Hoosier R6 245/50/15s in back with no issues, tight, but no rubbing and look great.

This car is driven on Sundays/Saturdays only, fast back road and starbuck runs in the dry only with friends but a little concerned about the R6 on the street. Don't care about life span, just the saftey aspect.

So my two questions. 1) Ok to run a 235 (R888) on a 9 inch wide rim, a little stretched but any saftey issues?

2nd question. Car maybe gets 1500 miles a year (due to my job) on it in the dry only, under these conditions can the R6 be run on the street? Again, not worried about going through sets due to wear, never in the rain, just saftey concerns.

Thanks for any help with this.

A 235 (R888) on a 9 inch wide rim is no problem. I have used a 225 AO48 on a Fuchs 9x15 in the rear of a RS bodied 911 for track and long distance (2000 mile) touring.

Can the R6 be run on the street? Yes, of course - but not for very far and not for very long. Make sure the weather will be dry, you have a spare or AAA card, and you do not have to travel more than about 150 miles at a time..

I've had two R6's fail on me, one blow out, and one side wall failure. They have a very limited life, a thousand miles???

I'd stay with the R888's. They are plenty sticky for fast road use and will wear much better than the R6's.
