I've finally come around to finishing the Replica Cibie Bi-Iode headlights.
With the curent prices of $1000 for a used set of 7" units, I think this set is worth considering. I've been driving around with a set like this for a couple of months now and there is few people noticing it is not the original artifact.
In this version 2 of this Replica set I've made some changes based upon the usage of the Verison 1 on my own car.
It has an extra bracket for better light image adjustment so it passes the MOT, and extra dampening bushing and a better main headlight bulb fitting.
This set has professionally satin black painted (chrome) rings like many of the works cars had in the day's and has the Yellow globes on the bulbs.
I'm offering this as a set with a matching set of Cibie Hood lights. This set is made from a new replica set, that is painted in the same satin black and I've also glued in a set of yellow globes. (they could pass as originals this way, but they are the new replicas)
About the Repro Bi-Iodes:
Let me start with "they are not really repro's", but real units, just a little bigger that the original, similar in appearance:
I've been working on converting the similar Citroen DS Cibie Bi-iode units and converting the slightly bigger Bi-Iodes is quite labour intensive, so it takes me a couple of evenings to do that the right way....and off course I have been searching for buckets, rings and glasses for a couple of months, so I can offer a complete set.
The bigger ones won't fit into the SWB USA light linner buckets, however they do fit inside the SWB Hella USA light outer buckets. Problem with these Citroen units is that the bulb holders have very long extension made for the Citroen light housings to be able to replace the bulb from the inner front wing / wheel well. Also the mounting method is entirely different on these. I've adjusted all that on the repro's to make them fit.
In my opinion, porsche should have used these bigger lights in the first place. There really is no benefit to use a 2nd metal bucket inside the outer bucket. (Which they did not do for the H1 and H4 lights) they even could have done without the glass on the Cibie units and use a fluted hella glass to shave off some more weight of the racers.
