Door Seals

I am going to replace my door seals.

Can you recommend a product/process to remove the old adhesive from the channel?

I was about to order some 3M adhesive cleaner but I am in CA and we are not to be trusted with it apparently. Any advice on what works best to clean off the old glue?

Can you buy “Goo-Gone” in the people’s republic?

All kidding aside, Mineral Spirits from Lowes, Home Depot etc. will work too. 3M sells adhesive remover in a can with a nozzle that's easier to control than the spray version shown.
I've used it for years.

I do have some goo gone so I’ll try that.

I also found a citrus based 3M version of adhesive remover that is ‘legal’ in CA so I ordered some as well.

Just as a warning - Porsche now started producing original type of early door seal (solid whale shape), I bought some for comparison to add to the collection. They are nearly half the size in section to the ones that have been available so far from Stoddard and other replica parts in US and UK. Not sure why and which are 100% right but just a caution, I don't think at least on my car the seal will even touch the upper window frame with that section. Will gather all of them round and take pictures for references to post here.

Hi all - want to follow up on this. Is there consensus on which repro manufacturer makes the best '70 Coupe whale door seals today? Also, are there solutions for the "Desk Pads" in the original parts list (part 90153194520) besides the Sugru option described earlier in the thread? Thanks!

Reading through this thread I thought I'd show you an example of the real early door seal. My car is a Jan '65 build, couldn't find a decent replacement so just reused them. They show true patina!

Time for update…..Porsche sells the later type seal using the correct part number for LWB 71…
Whats the best new version for LWB door seals ?

I recently fitted the offering from Stoddards. It looked damn close to the small piece of seal that I’ve kept from the restoration back a few years ago.

As others have said, I needed to build up the section near the A pillar……I just put pieces of Dum Dum behind the section that whistled, until I was happy.
