    Optima Battery losing fluid

    Hello all,

I have a yellow top Optima battery in my '67 911 with a 55 amp Bosch alternator, and there is fluid in the battery box area. The terminals were 168 degrees F after the drive, but the battery had a 12.65 V charge.

Then, today, I drove my '88 911 Targa with a red top battery, and the battery was hissing after a 200 mile trip. Standard alternator in the '88. The battery had a 13.65 V charge. The car would not start after ten minutes.

Optima's website says it can take a 15 V charge.

Has anyone else experienced this, as it cannot be good for the battery.

    Thanks, Tom

What is the charging rate of both cars measured at the battery at 2,000 RPM? Sure sounds like its overcharging.
