Tall people: which retro seat would you pick for height ?

or in this case lack thereof... I'm redoing my wife's 912 at the moment. Exterior and interior. I want to put a reclining retro look seat, but one that sits as low as humanly possible on the rails. The look I'm looking for is similar to a GTS monte carlo, say... I don't have the luxury of sitting in the various brands/models, so I'm hoping people who have more experience can recommend one. I know from past experience that by the time you add aftermarket sliders/adpaters on Porsche rails, you often end up sitting higher than on the destroyed factory seats, which I want to avoid at all costs (we're both tall and have steering wheel vs. knees clearance issues). Anyone got the seat cushion shaved to compensate? Looking to hear from tall(ish) people or those who like sitting low. TIA !!!

The Nurburgring seat is narrow enough at the base to slip between the rails, so you can make up the cross-beams with a "dip" on your slider mounts that allow the base of the seat to nearly sit on the floor and sill have full functionality. The Nurburgring does not recline.

Whatever the case, if you want to sit low, the lightweight seat crossbars can be mounted in a low position, you will end up significantly lower than your stock seat.

    Check out vintage seats.....www.vintageseats.com
That was my first stop but they don't make a seat that reclines to let a kid in the back seat, or with adjustable back... Tilt sliders are no good for me, they add more height...

A couple general suggestions, if I may... I know you don't want to travel to try out a seat but I'd encourage you to rethink this notion. I've been down the custom seat road a couple of times and irrespective all of the studying that I did beforehand, once I sat in the actual seats the one that I thought I wanted wasn't even an option for me and the one that I picked wasn't one of the ones I initially considered. So much for all of the studying.

If you have custom seats made, you can sometimes ask for specific changes to better suit you. This is something that is better done in person.

You can also make your own mounts. I wouldn't use anything but a stock slider but how you mount that to the seat can be a little negotiable.

If you don't already have a smaller diameter steering wheel in the car, that's another option. Some of them have asymetric rims, for increased thigh clearance. Adding a spacer to bring the wheel closer to you helps as well.

    Good luck,
    JR

You're wife shouldn't be taller than me (1.9 mts, remember this is a German car), first thing I did was change the steering wheel to a 38 cm (914) with extension, that took care of the leg problem. It should work for both of you.

I'm kinda in the same boat. My seat is a good deal smaller + lower but I still could use some more room. Getting a longer hub extension --- something like these . . .

. . . to move the 'plane' of the steering wheel out/away from the shifter, would open up some leg room . . . and looks to be my next option

    Greg,

I'm 6'4" with a 36" inseam and fit fine in my fixed back 'Vintage Seats'.....I also have fitted a 370mm Momo Prototipo wheel which helps with leg room. You can adjust the pitch of the seats up and down....I have mine set at the highest setting in the front and lowest in the back which sit lower than the stock seats. My kids have no trouble getting in the rear seats.....I just slide the passenger seat all the way forward and there's just enough room for them to get in.

Classico wheels (Jeff Feldman) makes the hubs and wheels for Zuffenhausen. If you want to use a VDM 911 wheel, instead of a Momo, another alternative is to use a Momo hub, they're 7 cms and use the same screw pattern, vs the Porsche extension, which is "only" 3 cms.

Oh that looks good ! I was not too concerned with the wheel/hub, I have what I need there, but I really like sitting low in the car as opposed to on top of it :-) that seat looks like it could be moved forward enough to avoid recliners, the kids are small if they are gonna fit in the back anyway. Thanks!

I also recently installed some R seats from Vintage seats. You would be amazed at how far forward the passenger seat will slide (I was) to allow access to the back seats. I have a 7 and 9 year old and they can get back there with no problems.

Good luck with your search - Farrell
