Thread: Light alternative to fuchs ? What happened to VTO ?

Light alternative to fuchs ? What happened to VTO ?

My wife's 912 is undergoing restoration, and it's a good time to dump the slightly wobbly fake fuchs and do something different. There used to be a shop called VTO performance doing minilite replicas, I wanna say from australia, that were fairly light and fairly priced... [Edit: I remember now, superlite wheels, VTO was a distributor] I got a set on my old bimmer... They seem to be gone though. I like the minilite look, anyone know if VTO was bought by someone else ? or a good source for light alternatives ? I'll google real minilites but I get the feeling they are as expensive as fuchs - I have quote request ; -)

(PS: this car will never see north of 70 mph due to its short gearing, and no track due to its complete lack of power, so forged/cast doesn't matter much, but the lighter the better)

Panasport used to make a good Minilite look alike, don't know if they're still around.

What about a set of Mahle "gas burners"? They were a factory option.

Gas burners are nice wheels and very light. I had them on a 914-6. They have become very expensive. They probably cost as much or more than Fuchs. A good option at a reasonable price are 6x15 cookie cutters if you like the looks.

thank you ! hard to believe it never came up on google... They used to be packracing, they've changed names more often than I change cars ;-)
I have asked both them and minilite USA for a quote... Best weight/price ratio wins ;-)

    Greg,

if you know anyone who speaks with anything that might sounds like a british accent, call the UK minilite folks, seems they sell to folks they like at very good prices, even after you factor in shipping.

VTO will be less expensive, but wouldn't you rather get the real deal?

These are (or were?) also available in a 15x7R offset for a good fit on SWB cars. Not to everyone's liking, cast I believe. I have a set as spares for an altogether inexplicable reason.
