Question how to paint the dashboard ?

    Hi all,

I am close to perfection, not me but the backdating/custom work of my magnificent 911 . I am not happy with the vinyl of my dashoboard. I am gonna send the tachos/counters to change them into a 73 S look. In top of this, I would like to paint the dasboard metal stuff that hold the tachos/or replace it by some kind of aluminium "bouchonne".
What is the modus operandi ? Do I have to remove the windshield ? or is there any nice tricky things to do it by under ?

addons : This is for my backdate 1973 ,based on a 3.2 - the dashboard is a 1984 one, though.

I would value your inputs and thank you a hundred times.

    All the best.

The early dashes were painted satin black. To do this properly you'll need to remove the dash pad, which requires the removal of the windscreen

at least while it was drying, you had some readings ... Whaouuu...impressive

I beleive you removed the vinyl and the various plastics, how have done this ? There are glued, just pulling off and removing the glue ?

    Cheers

    Wow Ed, nice work!

Everything can be removed from the facia, but it's hard work The trim is fixed with double sided tape, be careful not to bend it, most knobs just unscrew and get pushed through. The heater controls are on cables. Put the trim back on with fresh double sided tape.

I've just put my dash back together

It sounds like you are not only painting your dash but also backdating it from a 3.2 Carrera dash to a '73 style dash. I recently backdated the dashboard on my '74 911 to a '71-73 style dashboard. It was a big job but it turned out well. If you would like complete information and pictures send me a PM with your email and I will send more information on how I did it and pictures to you. Attached below are a few pictures.
