Gents
The days of my 73 911S zipping around a track are all but over. It will never be a garage queen, but it’s simply become too valuable to risk a major blow-it moment at an A/X or a track day. So…time to make my wife happy and get these out of the spare bedroom. Plus, my ultra- heavy sport seats are just too comfy and I love the way they look, so the Recaro buckets just don't get used.
I bought these seats from Phil Bagley at Klub Sport a few (2-3 ?) years ago. They are real fiberglass Recaro sport bucket seats. At the time, nothing else would do. I’m told they were made in the early 70’s and came out an ST. I had them upholstered by Tony at Autobahn in San Diego using correct German vinyl and some black corduroy that Tony had for the inserts. The vinyl is perfect; it’s a perfect match to the original headrests that I bought to complete the seats. The corduroy on the seat I used on the driver side is thinning more than I thought it should at the front end of the seat cushion. Patina to some, worn corduroy to others, but it looks fine. If it’s not what you want Michael at Vintage Seats has some really nice cord available or Eric’s houndstooth fabric is also wonderful and won’t cost a ton all in because it’s just the inserts, not the entire seat.
The bases are fixed (non -tilting) that I sourced from Dave at TRE and they come from Wedge Engineering. They are appropriate for a 69-73 911/912. They also have the “L” shaped seat belt brackets that you need.
The sliders are single locking and while period correct, they are not the correct sliders as far as I’m told. Seat expert on this site can weigh in, but I’m led to believe these were for a BMW, but I’m not 100% sure. It did take me over a year to find them, and since they are “sided” I ended up with an extra left hander that I’ll also include. They work, and look better IMO than the new sliders that you can still get from Recaro which are likely safer than these. Your choice.
These seats are a great plug and play option for someone who wants a real set of Recaro sport buckets. They are ready to roll, and waiting for a new butt. No waiting, no time spent on EBay, Samba, PP and here looking for all the stuff you need. They can be in your car this weekend. I have more invested in these than my asking price.
$3,800 plus shipping from San Diego.
