    Reverse engineering a VIN #

    Hi All,

Do any of have any ideas on if this is possible. I wanted to see if I can find out what Body VIN# a certain Motor and transmission set would have came in? I found a car in a shop that has sat for 25 years or so and it is missing part of the front clip that had the VIN# on it ( and the one on the smuggler box is gone too. The one on the window A pillar seems to be gone as well. I have contacted the Classic division @ the factory about this and they were only able to do this with the VIN #. It is a classic Catch22.

It is a pre 1973 car, do any of you know if the VIN is stamped under the passenger side dash like the later SC/Carrara models.

    Thanks for the help.

Don't you think, that the VIN actually lives in an other car? Not that i would like such things, but why have the numbers been removed?

Could be stamped above the ash tray in the center of the dash

Yes, crummasel, that thought had crossed my mind and is the reason that I am trying to figure out the VIN# first.
