One of the highlights of my life was meeting Mr. Singer at the last Rennsport. I literally turned around and there he was, walking along a few steps behind me and totally unrecognized by the masses.
He was very polite and just a super nice guy when I asked him for a few moments of his time. I spoke with him and told him that I really thought what he did for Porsche over the years was amazing ... he was quick to point out that it was a team effort and that he was merely just a part of the machine. If you notice during the interview with Chris Harris that whenever Chris said "you", Norbert responded with the word "we".
I got to take a picture with the man, but it's trapped on another computer.
Meeting Norbert Singer is truly one of the high points in my life so far.

I also stopped to chat with the self-effacing Singer at Rennsport. He was just wandering around the paddock with Valentin Schaeffer, both men smiling like proud papas, and both generally unrecognized by most in attendance. He is a modest man, but was part of all of the overall wins at Le Mans for Porsche.
In the book that he wrote with Mike Cotton, 24:16 (24 Hours, 16 wins), he is careful to acknowledge the efforts of Schaeffer, and especially Eugen Kolb and Helmut Flegel, in bringing the 956 into being in a mere 8 months over the fall and winter of 1981-1982. The 956 was a huge leap forward from the 936 with its monocoque and ground-effects, but relied on proven mechanical technology to maintain Porsche's anvil-like endurance.

I saw this link posted earlier today on FB and went to you tube to watch and had to really laugh when he was telling Chris Harris about the develoment of the ground effects and how it affected the front geometry . Also how he referred to we a number of times....... very humble man and the cornerstone of advanced thinking. A team player on a VERY good team.
He and his team indeed developed some incredible stuff........ and if you snoop around and read here about the car and its use in this video, the statement is made that it is running in trim as it did on the day it came off the track after its LeMans win. No engine rebuilds, no freshening ....... it appears here in " as raced " form. Literally taken from that day and driven about with no concern for failure.
REMARKABLE !!!
