    Genuine Porsche Seat covers

In my quest to find good used seat covers I have come up empty handed. I restored mine, but am not too happy with the seat bottom part. Too many cigarette burns and the stitching is stretching as is the ribbed material. It fits the seat pad well and tight, but looks a bit shabby.

I was wondering if anyone has actually used the Genuine Porsche seat covers 911 521 037 02 (seat bottom) and 911 521 143 00 (seat back) in black leatherette ? Faced with a few replacement choices here and there, I've been trying to stick with Porsche parts as much as possible if they are "correct", maintaining it the way someone who dealer serviced the car would have done. I realize there are plenty of other choices out there from Autos International to Autobahn Interiors to Lakewell etc. etc. But how about the genuine Porsche covers ? Any love for them ?

I have an almost pristine set of 1973 double locker sport seats available. Original in every way but for repadding which you cannot see. All orig black 73 vinyl leatherette, all original painted and plated surfaces and all original B/W houndstooth. They really should go to a preservation class car which I have been looking for with no luck. So selling off some of my trinkets. SS #2 Not cheap if interested, but as genuine as it gets.

    Steve,

    PM sent

I'm in the process of purchasing a 73S and I've been on the look out for some original double locking 73 seats.

    PM sent to you Steve.
I'm trying to stay original, and the car came with comfort seats. But I can always keep the original seats in the basement. The B/W houndstooth would go great on my light ivory car.

So no one has any experience with the Porsche seat covers huh ? Interesting that everyone goes to Autobahn Interiors, Autos International or Lakewell, but nobody has tried the factory ones. They aren't any pricier than Lakewell for example.

I've already had a seat base cover seam rip on my originals, and two other tears on the side since they were stretched onto the seat frames, so their time is up unfortunately.

Sorry Ravi- I didn't reply because it has been quite a while since I used the factory seat covers. My experience then (over twenty years ago) was they were excellent. Some of us thought better than what was on the seat when it came from the factory. They were vinyl so they suppleness could have to do with age... but fit wise, perfect. But then again factory vendors and sourcing have changed over the years.

Of course, and I am sure you know this, the padding should almost always be replaced at the same time. I watched an upholsterer attached the covers and I was shocked how much work it was to get the folded over sections into their locations and how both patient and incredibly strong this guy's hands were.

Years ago I noticed that my past Mercedes seats were starting to squeak right by the seat belt buckle. An old ex-factory worker had sat in the car and told me I was going to be replacing the seat padding soon. I thought he was crazy. About a little more than year later he was right. He knew because the buckle receptacle rubbing against the seat side mean it was collapsing. Never forgot that.

If nothing more, you got a bump out of this-

    Best, Haasman

Thanks Haasman, Indeed I have replaced the padding as well as the seat back suspension, and I have bolstered the seat springs as well, simply by filling the seat base with upholstery chip foam. Works like a charm and takes some of the spring squeakiness out as well. Frames, pan and springs all blasted and powdercoated. Ditto for the recliners. I nickle plated their innards and reassembled this weekend.
