    911L Production Numbers

I have a 911L, number 11805302 - and I see a lot of conflicting information about the number produced. The Red Book says 5,449, but then I see people saying they are much more rare than that. Some say 1,600 and others are saying in the 400 range. Does anyone know what is correct and why there is so much misinformation about this particular model?

I own a '68 911L Soft Window Targa, and I have done a bit of research on production numbers as I've seen conflicting data. I believe that there are misconceptions about just how rare these cars are due to errors in reference books. Here are the VIN ranges for the '68 911L Targas in the following books:

"Porsche 911 Red Book" by Patrick Paternie: 11855001-11865134
which would be a production of 5,134. As rarely as we see these cars, and as rarely as we see elephant hide interiors, I believe this number is in error.

"Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan: 11865001-11865134
which would be a production run of 134. More like it, but their range is off as my 911L SWT is 11855064

"Porsche 911 and Derivatives: Volume 1: 19631980" by Michael Cotton: 11855001-11855134
I believe this to be the correct VIN range for 911L SWTs, which indicates total production of 134.

A friend is being given a tour of Porsche's Vintage Car Museum later this month by the Museum Director and 911L production figures are on the list of questions he will be asking.

    1968 Models produced

1968 is a confusing year, with many models. This list below is very accurate. However, any additional data points are welcome. Thanks.
