Background info:

Since the demise of such epic road racing events as the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and of course the Carrera Panamericana (or Mexican Road Race) a void has been left for those wishing a pure open road experience. Modern day events such as the California Mille, Colorado Grand, Copperstate 1000 are truly a special experience but can be too rich for some budgets and exclusive to some years and models of vintage cars. Full race events like La Carrera, Classic Adelaide, and Targa Newfoundland are challenging and fun but dangerous and far from home. The Carrera California offers vintage car owners a chance to hit the road for a couple of days of spirited driving along selected Southern California roads, retracing paths traveled by early motoring enthusiasts.

Following the lead of events like the California Melee, No Frills Iron Bottom Tour (now deunct), Alpine 500 (now defunct), The Bottom Buster Motor Tour, The Snowball Rally and the SoCal TT, the Carrera Californiais a no cost event organized by volunteers without financial motivation or agenda, where all pre-1975* cars are invited. (* please use this as a guideline, we want to encourage your participation, exceptions are approved if the “spirit of the event” is preserved or maybe even enhanced.).
