    back dating guards - good idea / bad idea

    guys , looking at needing some std narrow guards and options seem to be ;
    A - old pair that would need repair / work at $1k plus labour plus shipping $2k plus
    B - buy a set from restoration design $3k plus shipping
    c - use a set of early 74+ guards that are very good , add the signal boxes from resto/design $1k

    now how much of a sin is it to back date 74+ guards for a pre 74 car ?

    John,

    I am doing the same thing. Backdating the 74+, I can't seem to find the correct signal boxes though. Everything is for short wheel base that I have seen.

    I prefer having the galv panels if possible. In oz, I am picking them up for about $150 but then I need the signal box panel!

    It may be a "two countries separated by a common language" issue. The U.S. folks may not know what "guards" are, so aren't responding. I was guessing "bumpers", but it doesn't seem to fit the context of your original question.

    I understand guards as being rear wings, if not forget my below text.
    my experience :
    base is a 3.2 septembre 1983, completly dismentled, kept only the dashboard (not for long), the 915 gearbox, the 3.2 engine and the chassis. Almost every external parts (hood, bonnet, wings, flares, Fuchs wheels, bumpers, doors, windows, chromes etc.) came from classics pre 73 (NOS, New Porsche or Second hand). However I decided to keep the large guards stuff. Because it is a hotrod I am doing at the end, and I decided to keep what I like, and replace classics parts what I did not like from the 1983 911.

    What are "guards"? I thought fenders were "wings" in the colloquial tounge.
