The Porsche 911 or "901" as it was referred to early on started life on the desk of "Butzi" Porsche as a simple sketch in 1959. From there it was perfected over a number of years all culminating into a prototype that was publicly viewed for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963. The first 84 units produced were called 901's, but only after a legal dispute with Peugot was the model changed to 911. In 1964, production began, and it was then the 911 started a journey that has yet to end. Every year since its first, the 911 changes a little. Through success on the road and track it can trace its modern day success to its roots of the early SWB cars that carry the essence of its original intent. The 911 on offer here is just that, a pure driver's car, in superb driver quality condition.

History on Chassis# 304617 can be traced back to being sold new out of a NJ Porsche Dealership, then finished in its factory color of light ivory (6604) and Black Leatherette interior. This example was ordered new with many options including: Webasto Heater, Bumper Horns, Exterior Mirror, Veluran Floor Mats, Wheel caps W/ Crest, Becker "Europa" Radio, Loudspeaker, Antenna, 2 headrests, and Dunlop tires. Overall, a very well optioned 911 when new. Soon after its first owner in NJ this 911 made its way to Grand Rapids, MI. There it was enjoyed by the second owner for a few years, and shortly after Purchased by a Mr. Goodspeed who acquired the car, according to the records present with the car, in 1971. From this point Chassis# 304617 tells a story of enthusiasm and care, as this car was closely tended to by the same marque specialist shop for nearly 40 years with receipts for every spark plug and oil change.

Today the car shows as an excellent driver quality example. The records indicate a total engine rebuild less than 2,000 miles ago, rebuilt transmission, new brakes, suspension, and fuel system, all tended to within the past year; bringing this example 100% up to date and nearly perfect in terms of its mechanical aspects. Within the past few years the car did receive a color change to the very desirable Slate Gray, a period color offered by Porsche. A thorough inspection of the car reveals that it was never a rusty car, and in fact still retains many original qualities throughout. The interior has been updated with the correct materials as necessary and overall shows very well and very correct. The front trunk is clean, and the engine bay shows nicely with nothing out of place. Currently a set of period correct Fuchs have been fitted with nearly new tires. The chrome is great in some places and showing age in others, but overall is very presentable as is. The value in this 911 is that it is an early example, was never a rough or rusty car and has a history that is well defined. Complete with all of its original books in the pouch, Certificate of Authenticity, and extensive maintenance records, this 66 SWB offers excellent value for money that any enthusiast or collector can appreciate. Please inquire for additional details and many photos.
