Wiring for hood mounted cibie oscars

My 73 RS originally had hood mounted Oscars, as the repaired holes were evident when the hood was stripped. The original factory harness included wiring for the lights, but has been cut off short of the hood, and we would like to replicate the original if possible.

Would be great to get photos showing the factory wiring & connectors , including detail of the routing of wiring up the hinges, onto the hood & the connectors used.

    Hi David,

I would hope I could talk you out of putting those on the hood again, but if you insist here is what I have. This is RS 1223, which was owned by a good friend years ago. I believe these lights are mounted correctly, but this car didn't have them originally as there is no option code in the chassis listing in the RS book for this Carrera.

PS pretty please don't put them on your beautiful restoration.

PSS as an aside this third series RS came with an original aluminum frame ducktail from the Factory when new. The owner and I disected the paint layers and it was clearly original to the car.

The Pallas are mounted on the front part of the fenders, and should be wired from the inner fender into the fuse box.
Additional question should be asked : are the Pallas on/off via a separate switch on the dashboard or on/off bay the headlight general comodo ?

Unfortunately the Pallas were mounted later on my car, no original wiring.

    Cheers

FYI. Those are not Cibie Oscar. They are Cibie Pallas.

You're right, sorry for the confusion, Citroen DS pallas ? Pallas as well on #2. However this is the right position for Pallas though.

    Thanks Brian and Xavier.
Brian, you are not the only one encouraging me not to fit lights. This is what we are doing.
Even though the original hood has evidence of holes, I am leaving it intact.
I have a second hood which will have the Cibie lights mounted, plus a hole for the extended neck filler for the 110L tank. Others have encouraged me to fit an 85L tank, which I have sourced, however the 110L tank has clearly been in the car for a very long time.

Although Porsche say the car was delivered with an 85L tank, my guys say there are unique brackets to hold the 110L tank in place, and they are absolutely sure these are factory fitted, as are the mounts for a cage inside the car.
It loooks as thought the car was returned to the factory at some early point in its life [ it went to Japan in 1977 ] to have the 110L tank and a cage fitted, and perhaps wiring for the hood lights.
They also say they have never seen an early car with such an original untampered with wiring harness- it was original but looked almost new. A legacy of the car being stored in Japan for so many years.
It must have been a good storage environment, as the only rust was where bad repairs were made.

Interersting what Peter says about the Cibies.
I understand these lights were originally fitted to the Citroen DS19 Godess in the 50's.

Below is a shot of the car last week, with the second unpainted hood in place, to cut the hole for the filler neck.
The car will definitely make it to the Porsche Club of NSW Concours on Sunday 28 Oct, and I will send more photos them.

    Hi Xavier,
Just noticed your comment about switching.
On other cars , we have activated the Cibies on high beam, but had a separate switch on the dash to over ride this.
My guys tell me that the wiring on the RS is such that on high beam the Cibies are on- no option.

    Hi David

Don't let those nay sayers put you off the cibies!

FWIW I have mine wired up through a spare rear demister pull switch located in a spare dash hole and then to a hidden relay and then through the hi-beam (it looks very factory). I hid the wires much like the photos above in the hood frame. The demister toggle has an illumination rod to indicate when the cibies are active. I've also sourced a second hood should I get an urge to run sans hood lights.

    Cheers

I do not have an RS, nor and RS clone, but I do have a set of these lights and a second hood for my car, which is a 1972 911T. The reason for the second hood is that I would like to have the option of having the lights installed, or not, without having extra holes to worry about in the hood. I also simply hate the idea of drilling holes in the original hood.

My car is likely going in for paint next week, at which time I would like to have the second hood and light pods painted (together with the car). Before I have that done, I would like to have the holes drilled for the hood lights. The problem is that I am not at all sure of the proper placement of these lights on the hood. Can anyone help me with a template or some form of proper placement instructions a la original RS? It would be most helpful to have precise measurements. I do not want to install them in the fenders near the headlights, by the way. Thanks in advance for your help!

By the way, does anyone know a source for proper wiring kits? Thanks again.
