    "Typ 912" Data Plate on a 911?

I just took delivery of a 1968 911 Karmann and while looking it over noticed that the aluminum data plate shows "Typ 912". The serial number is clearly for a 911 and within the Karmann block, all the other S/N stampings match and the engine and trans match the COA so I doubt it is a altered 912. Anyone seen this before or have an explanation?

    Thank you.

Yup, seen that lots of times. It is nothing to worry about and just a unique little feature of your particualr car. Here is another one with the same plate. It is a 912, though.
