    Ferrari 330GT 2 + 2

    OK --- not exactly svelte . . . kind of a boat, actually . . .

    Don't know if it's fast? . . . maybe

    Don't if it's reliable? . . . uhhh

    Cheap to keep? ---NOT!

    . . . but what a fantastic-looking cruiser! Thing's clean as Gramma's kitchen, too

    More Ferrari 330GT 2 + 2 . . .

    . . . last of 'em . . .

I guess these cars more usually came as an ugly-a$$ four-headlight version

    Don't know how this beastie drives . . . but I think it's fantastic-looking . . .

    . . . and the asking-price seems cheap . . .

Course --- then it drops a valve or barfs some coolant . . . and I'm trying to sell it to keep my house, so . . .

I have the earlier version of this car, (pictured below). It is fast enough but the fact is, your passenger is gripping the seats with the sound and drama of the car until they notice you are going no faster then the Honda in the next lane. It was built for cross Europe jaunts in an era before easy air travel and as such was very fast in it's day. It's no sports car but at the same time it's fun as hell to slide it around. As far as maintenance, oye, you have no idea. I have put about 25,000 miles on this car and spent well over a $1 a mile. That said, there isn't much else that's like to to drive, and as I bought it over 10 years ago it then cost what a nice 911T cost today.

I owned one for a few years. Let's just say, not nearly as fun to drive as our cars.

I briefly considered one of these back when $40k would get you a really nice car. Yale, you have confirmed that I made the right decision not to buy one. I have had infinitely more fun with the early 911. They are a really pretty car though. I have always liked the GTC and GT 2+2 cars. Steelies look great on them too.

When I got out of college I was working for a design firm in Westport, CT. The owner of the local foreign car parts place had one of these that he had bought from a priest, who had purchased it new when he was posted to the Vatican. He was thinking of selling it, and I briefly thought about selling the Speedster and buying it. It was in almost perfect condition from what I could tell, and this being 1976, or so he wanted $6500 - about three times what I had paid for the Carrera Speedster a few years earlier. A drive to Greenwich, and a chat with the service manager at Chinetti Ferrari about the cost to keep the thing maintained, Thank God, brought me back to reality.

I still think these are about the nicest 2+2 Ferrari ever made, nice proportions, with the two headlight version looking better than the early cars (sorry Yale - of course imho).

    Look, but don't touch.
