    RS space cam

    Hi all

Ive just got hold of an RS space cam that i was told was NOS. When it arrived it looks as if it has been used and ridges worn into one part of it.

Can anyone let know know what they think? Is this normal and are they meant to look like this....

The ridges are what meters the fuel at different combinations of throttle, speed, etc. So those are good. The finish is a little ugly but it does not look rusty. I'd say it looks good.

As Max said, there should be grooves on the surface, these are what the stylus traces to adjust the pump. Your last photo looks a little funky on the middle grove at about 12:00. Is that a crack on the surface?

To me the cam looks like it was stored wrapped in plastic and might have a little surface corrosion. Hard to tell from the pics.
FWIW, Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection recently told me that new space cams are available for about $750. Not sure if you could order one of these, but if you doubt the function of this one, that could be an alternative for you.

Thanks for that. The photo does make it look like a crack but its just a dark spot.

Based on the info you guys have given I'm pretty happy that its correct. And you are right, it has been stored in a plastic bag but there is no rust

Just my .02, but I wouldn't be convinced all is well if those pics accurately reflect what that cam actually looks like. Personally, I would take the time and (hopefully modest) money necessary to ask a MFI expert to personally inspect it, considering the time/effort/value of the end-use product. Gus would be my first inquiry.

Just curious- does the "09" or "60" marking designate it as a correct RS space cam? Visible differences between different cams (size, thickness, etc.)?

The "60" indicates an RS space cam. The second photo looks real bad. As Max said, the ridges are part of the fuel mapping.
