    What's this wire - 73.5 oil gauge

    Hi

    I suspect I have a bad Alternator &/or VR in a 73.5 911.

In the process of trouble shooting, I decided to clean the connectors to the warning lamp (blue and red/blk) on back of oil gauge. When I pulled the gauge out I see there is an unattached green wire (photo below). I believe I see this in the wiring diagram, and that it runs to the 14 pin connector.

Before I connect the green wire to the free terminal on the back of the gauge - can someone confirm this to be correct?

    Thanks

    Charles

That green wire is only used for sportomatics, but it is in every harness. Sporto's had a warning light on the oil temp gauge since the torque converter used engine oil. And that free terminal is just a ground lug, there's already a brown ground wire connected to the other ground lug.

"Search" cowers when Ed Mayo walks in the room. When "Search" cant find the answer he calls Ed Mayo.

Rumor has it that there is a secret, higher tier of Early S forum membership in which pressing the search button immediately opens a video chat with Ed Mayo.

Thanks for the compliment John, you cracked me up! but trust me, I learn as much from this forum as others might from me. It's all a matter of keeping these old relics on the road. I've just had the good fortune to have been working on them since dirt was invented.
