    911T engines 1971-73

I`m looking for a 911T 1971-73 and would like to know the good/bad on the 2,2 and engines 2,4, before I buy.

    Chain tensioner problems etc.....

They are both solid engines and last a long time. Zeniths work great in stock applications but I would add plastic blocks from pmo under them as I would get a fuel boiling problem with modern gas.Mfi had more power in 72 n early73,73.5 cis is a favorite of some and gets good mileage but it would be my least favorite . chain tensioners are fine, put some of those little collars on them. 1973.5 CIS is one great engine, starts good runs good and likes modern gas, for a daily driver you can not beat it.The motor heads prefer the MFI or webers. I have a 70T with Zeniths, never could get the car to run right. Have a 71T with webers runs fine...2.2 and the best 2.4 are great, just put collars on the chain tensioners.

Why would someone look for a 1971 and not a 1970? I thought there were effectively the same.

Yes, I believe that the best engine for the 911T is a 3.2. That's just me, I could be wrong.

    This is the Anoraks's take, OK? . . .

The '71 'T's were still carbureted . . . while the '72s and '73s are MFI, and so --- horsepower aside . . . are as mechanically sophisticated as the 'S's and 'E's

The 73.5 w/ CIS is probably the best/easiest runner . . . but not a lot of theatre when you pop the hatch!

Comes down to priorities, I would think . . . ease of operation? . . . or sophistication?

Personally? . . . I think that MFI absolutely makes any Porsche special . . . regardless of 'T,' 'E,' or 'S' . . . and is a signature feature of the Classic 911 --- and distinguishes Porsche from all other makes

    . . . and --- I think . . . . the Market will come to see --- and reward . . . that distinction, as well

While I am not as versed in Porsche lore as many of the people that frequent this site, I agree with this assessment. I have a 73.5 T with CIS and there certainly is not much to drool over in the engine bay. It runs very well but a friend(Perry911) has an Albert Blue 72 T(motor done to "S" spec) and it just looks "right" when you pop the hatch. Not to mention the car goes like stink and makes all of the right noises... Porsche cars with MFI, to me, represent that glorious age of racing in the early 70's!
