It appears to be a nice honest example. There are some details to be addressed but I am not in a position to throw stones. I wonder if the wood wheel and alloys were lifted some time in the history of the car or are COA issues. The date stamp on the chrome wheels may be early for that build date. It will be interesting to see how long it stays on the market given the asking price and state of authenticiy.

what makes you think it should have a wood wheel? It looks to have it's proper 420mm leather wrapped wheel.

Jim, I went through the images linked on the Samba ad and saw the COA.coa.jpg

You are much more observant than me! I don't know WHAT i WAs thinking. I was assuming it was an S and nowhere in the ad does it say that! A wood wheel is certainly appropriate for a 67 911 or a 912, especially when it is listed on the COA.

    Regards

At $129K, I would have assumed that it was an S, too!

No one can accuse you of being the "glass is half empty" type of guy on the subject of SWT.

Is there an expert on production history in the fold? Curious about the production numbers for this car. The advertisement says "A total of 718 Soft window targa's were produced in 1967 and only 235 in this configuration, making it one of rarest of the 911 derivatives and significant."

Porsche 911 Red Book provides the following details for the 1967 Targa:

    911 Targa - 718 produced with model #'s 500001-500718
    911 S Targa - 483 produced with model #'s 500001-500718S

Is it possible that there were overlapping #'s for 911 and 911S (e.g. 500001 and 500001S). If so, then I there were 718 of the regular 911 produced and 483 of S's. If not, then 718-483=235 as quoted in the ad would be accurate.

I have another book that matches Red Book but the June 2012 version of Panorama listed 235.

There is no reuse of serial numbers. A number was used once, with no further embellishment to reflect a normal and S models had an S affixed. The 67 normal SWT was indeed a very rare bird.
