Thread: '73 bmw 3.0 cs . . .

Congrats Frank! Nice job, I know you were looking, I just found this thread now I am starting to miss my ol' Bimmer's. Nice to see the BMW love from fellow 911S Reg members. Injection is nice but I've always been a little impartial to the CS, can't beat that sound from the carbs, so good job. The 37K Original Miles is INSANE! Those are just not out there anymore.

This Car was built in Dec 1974 and sold in May 1975 to a Beverly Hills Judge. It is 10th from the last US model E9s.

    Time capsule original!

It even still has Cosmoline under the hood, all of the smog crap still attached and working and the little BMW flashlight under the dash.
The interior of Mr. Morgensen's car is completely original including all of the leather. Your seats look nothing like them. Inviting as a La-Z-Boy and a cold beer but seem overstuffed. Yes? No?
Also it appears your air cleaner has been refinished?

Went for my first drive yesterday.

I had no idea they drive as good as they look.

They are great cars...just don't drive it in the rain! Remove the front wheel. In the wheel well you will see an opening up and back towards the firewall. If you can put your hand in there I bet you can scoop out dried, caked dirt. That's the problem with these cars; even in California if these cars were driven once a month in the rain that dirt was maintained as mud. You got a dry, awesome car. Congratulations.

Congratulations Frank, a 37 k miles preserved car sounds amazing! Would like to see some detailed pics when You can. I own a carbs CSL and is a really lovely car.

Lorenzo, this is a Porsche site. So, translated, you own a 2.7 RS. City pack (Touring) or full lightweight? And..YOU send some pictures, please!

You will find that for some reason even though 1974 was very near the end of the E9 Production that BMW made about 25-30 significant changes to the E9... Not just the bumpers which required modifications to the body but other items that required detailed engineering and production costs for less the two years of production.

For example 1974 and ONLY 1974-75 E9s had the following.

    1. Telescopic steering Column
    2. The upper dash design is slightly different
    3. The seats and interior is upholstered differently then the previous E9s
    4. All of the under dash panels are 74 Only.
    5. Wired for a flash light.
    6. Turn knob for the access panel where other E9s had a button.
    7. Steering wheel is totally different.
    8. Turn Signal Switch moved from the right side to the left.
    9. Bumpers including reinforcing body brackets and door beams
    10. Different tool kit and new heavier plastic tool box
    11. Gas tank mounts from bottom (1974 only)

Plus lots more changes that I can't remember..

It's a real lightweight as all the 169 carbs cars. Also own a Turbo.

I think Frank's car has the same '74 specific seats like yours with the horizontal pleats, but your car's leather looks new, and the seats look fuller. From the pics I saw of Frank's car (back seats only), the leather is darker blue - Very similar to my car, although I have the vertical pleats, as my car is '73.

Wow Lorenzo. That wheel looks smaller than an original 38cm Petri. How is it without power steering?
