The car is back, with a new Rennshift shifter...

Following the Alternator debacle of last week, I now have a rebuilt alternator - existing one was Motorola ??? Really, is that stock on a 72 or already a replacement unit ??? Also sporting Bob Tilton's stripes...and the infamously heavy steel wheels...

I am sending my fuchs to Harvey tomorrow actually, so it's steel for a while... unless I put on the spare minilites on it, which I bought for the 912 and don't feel all that "lite" to be honest !

Other new stuff, the Rennshifter from JWest. Very very cool.

The reason I picked this one over a seine shift gate (which I like) and a WEVO (which everyone likes) is that my car is a 72 which is a hybrid of sorts, with the 915 box but the skinny shift tower like a 901. The above options required a later 915 tower, while the Rennshift came as a *complete* unit. Bonus ! Also you could get a wood knob ball, kinda 917ish (no stripes) which advantageously replaces the broken $200 factory plastic one.

How does it shift ? Very very well, but weird. Weird because I'm used to 915s, been driving that for 15+ years. This no longer feels like a 915, except for the deliberate slowness of shifts. It feels like a Honda S2000 shifter (it's a compliment, precise and short travel) within a Ferrari metal gate. Shorter, precise, sprung throws, with a metallic "snick" at the end of each shift, up and down. Very different, but very cool, just goes against muscle memory for now but I already like it...
