    Paint help questions...please

    Paint matching questions.

I need to have a rear licence plate panel painted. The car is original 1965 paint, single stage Champagne Yellow.

Is there still single stage paint available, or is everything two stage now? If it's done with two stage, can the single stage paint be matched perfectly in color and look?

If single stage is available, any idea where to find it?

Any suggestions on where to take the panel it in SoCal? It needs to be a perfect match.

    Thanks,

    John

Single stage is still available in LA, and most automotive paint supply houses can color match from another panel. PM or email me if you need a source, but your painter should be able to handle this for you.

Yes you can still get single stage.

1: most collision shop painters nowadays are not familiar with single stage, and most may tell you they will not do it in single. Ihave a few customers that came to me because they specifically wanted single stage and had numerous shops tell them they would't do it

2: color match. Take the car TO the paint supplier. Give them the paint code, but ALSO have them come out and scan the panel. This way they can then come up with the absolute closest shade. If you don't tell them you specifically want this done, they will simply mix it by code. Time and possible repaints will make this a hard match

We no longer have our Glasurit 22 Line mixing system, only two stage waterborne. As noted, the supplier can match the color in single and your paint shop can shoot it. Make sure to ask what paint system the shop uses, as the hardeners, reducers, etc. are materials they already likely have on hand... where are you located?....Our shop is in the L.A area---our painter has been with us 29 years so he knows it all...... jim
