    Engine Sound Pad replacement

I have done some searching and see the types of pads that others have used and the adhesives, but I didn't find much on how to go about getting the new item glued and into place.

I am installing a new engine sound pad into a 72 S. I do not want to pull the motor to do this.

What advice or references can anyone provide on how to go about this with minimal dis-assembly of vaious engine systems.

I appreciate any and all advice.

    Just did mine.

I suggest removing the air cleaner (making sure nothing falls down into the intake stacks/carbs). Most pads I've found require removing of the engine cover pressure strut, no big deal but you will need to then prop open the engine cover until back in place.

If the old engine sound pad has crumbled and deteriorated vacuuming is highly suggested. Be careful not to bend the locating tabs at the top of the engine bay excessively- they will only take a few bends before failing.

When installing, try to get as much of the back lower section of the pad in and located, checking spacing between the right and left sides. Once in then push the pad back on the "firewall" and then locate the top piece under the infamously fragile bendable tabs.

I didn't use any adhesive. The bulk of the pad seems to hold it by itself. Somewhere I read/was told that using adhesive can trap moisture and lead to rust.

I installed a thermo-reflective non-oem one in my car. I noticed the difference in cabin noise immediately.

I purchased mine from Bob Breshears at AppBiz Applied Business Concepts http://appbiz.com

All told and taking my time, it took me about an hour more or less.

    Thanks Haasman...

Sounds easy enough. I suspect it will be a few weeks until I get to it. I have cleaned out most of the old a couple of years ago.
