Anyone installed a third brake lights installed for safety purposes?

Has anyone installed a third brake light in their early 911? I've used my '66 swb as a daily driver for the past four months and had about five "rear ended close calls" while sitting at a stoplight, because my brake lights were too low for SUVs to see. Are there any good solutions to this soon to be rear ended problem? I've searched the archive and got nothing. TIA.
    Andy (VA).

On Early cars it may also be because of dim brakelights ; make sure they are as bright as they should be, which really isn't something that can be compared to modern lighting. Making sure all grounds are clean, bulbs are new and clean, and lenses cleaned from the inside. Find that vinegar and water mixed is a great cleaner of inside the lenses on both front and rear lights. Altho I am not a big fan of the third brakelight look on vintage Porsches, I can thoroughly empathize with those who live in metro areas with surrounding stop and go traffic and have a need for a third light.

But NOTHING, not even a laser beam injected into the offender's eye sockets will affect a distracted while driving / texting / cell phone oblivious knot head bent on tailgating.

This has become such an issue in the 914 world I am installing 3rd lights on pretty much all of my nicer jobs. Just last week one of my customers was rear ended on I-95 totalling his VERY nice 914. This makes 2 in the last month I know of . IMHO it needs to be done on all of these cars. They just sit so low in this SUV world, most people don't even see the lights. I'm going to do something on my 73 911 when I get to working on it. Going to make it as invisible as possible when off. The nice thing about 914's is the trim on the rollbar can easily be cut to mount LED's inside it. Almost invisible when off, but highly noticable when lit up.

Both my 911 and 914 run a compact nearly invisible but blisteringly bright third brake light for the exact reason you stated. I opted for the model which obnoxiously flashes four times before going solid red. Tests have shown the flashing variety are far more effective and best of all I don't have to watch the flash. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.p...hl=brake+light.

I took the third brake light housing out of a car I was junking and installed led strips from the local auto parts store in place of the standard bulbs. LED's are very bright and draw a lot less current than regular bulbs. There are just too many drivers out there that like to ride your bumpers not to have one.

I use this in the rear grille of the Speedster, along with LED taillights for the reasons already mentioned.

The SO and I witnessed a Virginia State House of Delegates member driving and texting last night on I-64. He had the interior lights on and was riveted to his "device", looking down, traveling 75mph. BRILLIANT!

I'd try the Superbright LEDs before and I sure as hell wouldn't drive anything smaller than a 1/2 ton pickup in DC.
